Maybe you’ve been there, too. When I first started in kids ministry, it was a struggle to teach the lessons exactly as instructed. Not to mention the difficult time I had speaking in public!

But even though it seemed too hard, I couldn’t quit. I knew in my heart that this was where God had called me to serve.

MY TURNING POINT came when I stopped trying to teach like everyone else and began using the gifts God had given me.

I started creating costumed characters to present the lessons instead of teaching as myself. Everything changed. The kids were engaged. They were on the edge of their seats. They remembered the stories. The lessons. And the biggest discovery that I never expected? In a costume, I could teach with confidence.

Later, when it seemed we had exhausted every lesson plan (and buying new curriculum wasn’t exactly in the budget), I had to get even more creative. Because one of the hardest parts is trying to hold a kids’ attention who knows what’s coming next. So I learned to create my own object lessons.

Through the years, I kept revamping lessons and without realizing it, I was learning how to write lessons of my own. Eventually, I began creating curriculum and helping bring other people’s ministry visions to life.

Looking back, I can see how God was using every step of that journey. And now I get to help leaders like you.

I want you to know that God doesn’t need you to teach exactly like someone else. He wants to use you. Your personality, your creativity, and the unique way He designed you. Your limitations don’t disqualify you. God’s ability working through you is what makes you most effective.

So keep showing up. Keep trusting Him. And keep believing His Word. He will use you in ways you never imagined.
